Educational Qualification:
- Good academic record with at least 55% marks (or and equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed ) at the Master’s Degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
- Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET.
- Candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum standards and procedure for Award of Pd.D. Degree) Regulations , 2009, shallbe exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges /Institutions .
- NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters programmes in disciplines for which NET/SLET /SET is not conducted.
Pay Scale:Selected candidates would be eligible to get the pay scale of around Rs. 15,600/- to Rs.39,100/- Grade pay of Rs. 6,600/- other allowances as admissible under the rule.

About the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC):
Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) came into existence on Ist April, 1937 in accordance with the provision of the Govt. of India Act, 1935 with Mr James Hezelett, a retired ICS officer from London, as its first Chairman. Till framing a new regulation in 1951, five more officers mostly retired ICS officer, held the office of the Chairman for different period after Mr James Hezelett. On India becoming Republic, the regulations of the Commission were framed by the Governor of Assam in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 318 of the Constitution of India and the same came into force w.e.f. Ist September 1951. Also in the same year the Assam Public Service Commission (Limitation of Functions) Regulation was promulgated in exercise of the powers conferred by the provision of clause II of Article 320 of the Constitution.
